Cold weather means an end to beaches, flip flops, and sun dresses. Or does it? What if you could escape the cold?

There are pockets of the U.S. where summer never really ends, where the sun still shines bright and snow never reaches the ground. If you’d rather not have a white Christmas this year, plan on visiting one of these perpetually warm destinations in your RV.

San Diego

San Diego is the sun capital of the west coast. From spectacular beaches and amusement parks to fantastic cuisine and historic sites, San Diego has something for everyone.

The San Diego Zoo is world class, famous for its giant pandas. The zoo is also home to polar bears, California condors, Komodo dragons, elephants, and more. The San Diego Natural History Museum is likewise world class.

San Diego also has a strong naval history (the US Navy is the largest employer in San Diego), so any naval buffs will love the numerous museums devoted to maritime history. The USS Midway, a WWII era aircraft carrier, is the centerpiece of San Diego’s naval exhibits.

For lovers of colonial history, San Diego has a rich Spanish colonial past. Tourists can visit multiple old missions and see preserved historic buildings from Spanish colonial rule.

San Diego is of course renowned for its beaches. La Jolla Cove is probably the most interesting seaside attraction — it’s a picturesque cove surrounded by high cliffs — if you’re in San Diego, be sure to check it out.
