Washington, DC

The Nation’s capital has beautiful foliage to enjoy throughout the year, and fall is no exception. Visitors exploring The National Arboretum in Washington during fall can see all types of foliage in the beautiful colors of this changing season. There are even bonsai trees to see up close as their leaves change color.

Vermont Fall Foliage

Though Vermont translates to “green mountain,” the state’s greenery changes colors during the fall for a truly memorable sight. There are drives throughout the state that are perfect for viewing fall colors, and even entire towns that become enveloped in the beautiful fall foliage. Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming

A neighbor to Yellowstone, Grand Teton National Park is famous in its own right. During the fall months, this park lights up with beautiful yellows, oranges, and reds as its various trees transform. With incredible mountains and lakes surrounding the fall foliage views, Grand Teton is one of the best places for seeing fall colors. The park’s transforming foliage includes Northleaf Cottonwood, Black Hawthorn, Willow, and Quaking Aspen. There are numerous hikes that are perfect for spotting autumn’s paintings.

Essex, Connecticut

This Connecticut River Valley destination is an up-and-coming fall foliage destination with changing leaves that can be viewed by boat or on land. The rich reds, deep oranges, and striking yellow leaves are beautifully contrasted to the river’s colors during the fall months.

Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

Head to Colorado in early autumn to enjoy the colors of Rocky Mountain National Park. The leaves often change to a sharp yellow hue, with low-lying shrubs often joining in on the fall foliage transformation. Visit from September through October for the peak colors in this destination.
